Laboratory Services
We have practical, hands-on experience operating anaerobic digestion, composting and other organic waste treatment technologies, allowing us to generate test data but importantly also provide a sound assessment of these results to the client.

Services
The Gaia EnviroTech laboratory began to test samples in 2019 to provide a means to generate results rapidly and specialized to the needs of the anaerobic digestion industry. From this platform we continue to expand our capabilities, with testing packs now available for continuous anaerobic digestion piloting, dissolved air flotation, sludge dewatering, aerobic composting.
A full report with a detailed analysis of the results is included with each test conducted in our laboratory.
Analysis
- Physical feedstock assessments (i.e. materials handling characteristics)
- Basic waste parameters (e.g. Solids, COD, BOD, pH)
- Elemental testing (metals, carbon, nitrogen, FOG, etc)
- Dewatering and chemical conditioning trials
- Routine monitoring suite for anaerobic digestion operation (e.g. feed, cell and digestate solids, FOS:TAC)
Reporting
- Feedstock assessments
- Mass balance modelling
- Anaerobic digestion plant energy modelling
- AS4454 compost reporting
Biomethane Potential Testing
Although it is possible to estimate BMP based on available literature, the most accurate assessments are obtained when BMP is analysed from fresh samples of waste. A number of factors determine the quality and quantity of waste, and thus its potential for methane generation.
Gaia EnviroTech represents the state of the art in analytical equipment for measuring biogas at a laboratory scale and replicates the operations of a full-scale anaerobic digester, complete with built-in mixing system, gas scrubbing and online volume measurement.
Gaia Envirotech can analyse the biogas potential of any organic waste sample to provide BMP analysis for a comprehensive range of waste applications, including but not limited to:
- piggeries
- poultry farms
- dairy farms
- municipal solid waste
- fruit and vegetable waste
- wineries
- bakeries
- feedlot industry
- abattoirs
- beverages.
Downloadthe Diary Effluent Case study
The system in this case study was installed in November 2018 as a 12-month research and development project to establish viability of an anaerobic digestion plant designed to convert dairy effluent to energy and minimise odour.
