Gaia EnviroTech upgrades anaerobic digestion solution with co-funding from Sustainability Victoria

Apr 3, 2023 | Biodigester

Gaia EnviroTech has successfully commissioned and upgraded anaerobic digestion treatment solution to treat FOGO utilising co-funding from Sustainability Victoria.

This upgrade follows on from the successful trial of the Gaia EnviroTech anaerobic digestion (AD) facility trial on dairy farm effluent at Bungaree, Victoria. The site has undergone a significant upgrade with the aim of delivering an organic waste treatment facility and waste to energy facility that treats co-products to generate power for the farms’ operations and produce a nutrient-rich fertilizer and compost.

The upgrade incorporates the latest technical developments from Gaia’s other AD and Rapid Composting (RC) installations to increase the Bungaree facility’s efficiency and to maximise the energy produced from the organic feedstock. The FOGO treatment process under this development grant will provide data on the parallel treatment by Gaia’s AD and RC technologies. Research partners from RMIT University and Federation University Australia are undertaking side-by-side research on the quality of digestate produced and efficient distribution of renewable energy as part of a microgrid.

This project is supported by the Recycling Victoria Research and Development Fund – Organics and is being delivered Sustainability Victoria under the Victorian Government’s circular economy plan, Recycling Victoria: a new economy.
